1970 Royale RP4
Royale Racing Cars made their first appearance on track in 1967 and have remained a common sight in vintage racing circles ever since. Their cars quickly gained a reputation for being well constructed and competitive in the Sports 2000, Formula Super Vee, and Formula three classes. Their production soon expanded to include Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic, and Formula F100 cars. Just 11 Royale RP4s were built for the F100 Series and SCCA's B-Sport class. Though uncommon, these chassis proved extremely competitive. Two Royale RP4s gained notoriety after winning the 1970 and 1971 Formula F100 championships.
This 1970 Royale RP4 is powered by a Lotus Twin Cam equipped with a later big-valve, high-flow head. A pair of Weber 45DCOE carburetors control fuel delivery while power is sent through a Hewland MK9 transaxle. Both engine and gearbox perform beautifully with recent results at Lime Rock Park. There are approximately 20 hours on the engine since its last rebuild. A spare parts kit is available.
