2016 Ford Shelby GT350 “Track Pack”
In 1965, Carrol Shelby introduced a car that would become an instant classic: the Shelby GT350. By modifying the stock Windsor 289 with a large 4-barrel Holley 715 CM carb, a high-riser intake manifold, Tri-Y headers, and larger brakes, Shelby American created a highly competitive performance variant of the already popular Ford Mustang. The original 1965 GT350s were painted Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue rocker strips and optional “Le Mans” top stripes. In 1970, production of the Shelby GT350 stopped, but its legacy would live on in popular culture and on the race track. In 2005, however, the Shelby GT moniker was brought back with the Hertz-exclusive GT-H, the GT and the GT500. It was not until 2011 that the GT350 nameplate would make an official reappearance but, on the 45 anniversary of the original Shelby GT350, a completely new Shelby GT350 was unveiled in concept form. Since its debut, the GT350 name has been consistently offered by Ford and Shelby and has proven that the spirit of the original is alive and well, but the introduction of the 3rd generation Shelby GT350 (based on the 6th generation Ford Mustang) offered a pair of even more track focused Mustangs. The GT350 “Track Pack” and the GT350R were a true return to the original GT350 from 1965. The cars were designed with competition on track as a primary goal, and offered drivers numerous customizable options to further enhance track performance at the push of a button.
This 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 “Track Pack” is a true homage to the Shelby Mustang that started it all, finished in Oxford White with Kona Blue “Le Mans” striped as a tasteful nod to the classic Wimbledon White and Guardsman Blue combination. The 3rd generation Shelby GT350 is powered by a 5.2L “Vodoo” V8 with a special flat plank crankshaft, which revs to 8,250rpm and sends 526hp and 429 lb-ft of torque through a lightweight TREMEC 6-speed manual transmission. The Track Package features Fords phenomenal magnetorheological “MagneRide” adaptive dampers, a decklid spoiler, an aluminum tower brace, heavy duty springs, the same six-piston Brembo brakes as the GT350R, a valve-operated selectable exhaust system, as well as oil coolers for the engine, transmission, and differential. All these options may be designed for track use, but the result in a truly enjoyable driving experience on the street as well. With only 1,033 miles on the odometer, this car is in pristine condition and still looks fresh off of the showroom floor 3 years later.
