2005 Hummer H2
The original AM General M998 Humvee is one of America’s most all-terrain vehicles. It was made famous for its military personnel use during Operation Desert Storm and quickly became a staple in American popular culture. The civilian version of the M998, the AM General Hummer H1, used the same fundamental underpinnings as its military counterparts but were upgraded for additional comfort and federal compliance. The H1 was a testament to overengineering, with portal axles and a Central Tire Inflation System that allowed users to inflate or deflate all four tires with a press of a button. Its rugged, off-road prowess was undeniable, but that came at the cost of usability on the street and the creature comforts expected by the American public. AM General’s answers to the practical shortcomings of the H1 was the H2: a slightly smaller, well-appointed version of the Hummer that would maintain off-road capability while significantly improving passenger comfort. The new H2 was built on a modified GMT820 2500HD frame and was powered by a powerful Vortex 6.0-liter V8 engine that produced 325 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque for the 2005 model year. The H2 was an instant success and became so popular that it outsold the entire production run of H1s in its first model year alone. AM General took vital design elements of the H1, an undeniable cult-classic, and seamlessly integrated them into the new package. This new H2 proved not only to be extremely rugged and capable off the tarmac but also gained a reputation for being unbelievably reliable.
This 2005 Hummer H2 is a stunning example of the chassis. With only 19,684 miles on the odometer, it is one of the most well-preserved examples on the market today.
