1990 Ford Mustang 5.0 SSP
The Fox Body “Special Service Package” Mustang was a project spearheaded by the California Highway Patrol in 1982. CHP had a need for a capable, lightweight, high speed pursuit vehicle. With various engine issues plaguing the Chevrolet Camaros that were previously considered for CHP duty, the 5.0 Fox Body Mustangs became the vehicle choice for Highway Patrol. The SSP package between 1989-1993 included the 5.0L motor, either an automatic transmission with an external oil cooler or a 5 speed manual, an 8.8 rear end, engine oil cooler, 160mph certified speedometer with a 2 piece VASCAR speedometer cable, an upgraded 135 amp alternator, radio noise suppression package, air deflector and lower front radiator, front disc brake rotor shields, reinforced floor pans, unique wheels, a unique fan clutch, upgraded control arms and bushings, as well as various other upgrades. The final product was significantly more durable and capable of high speeds than its civilian counterparts. As soon as the SSP was discontinued, its collector status was solidified.
Our 1990 Ford Mustang SSP began its life as an unmarked Texas State Trooper highway patrol vehicle and was ordered by the City of Soutlake. The car was fully restored to its original specification including all lights, sirens, loudspeaker, and radio which function perfectly. The car remains fully outfitted for police duty. The subtle white exterior is unassuming at first glance, as intended for an unmarked patrol vehicle, but upon closer inspection any Mustang enthusiast will be thrilled to see that all police accessories are still present and in working order. The car runs and drives exceptionally, starts right up, idles well, and is extremely fun to drive. The transmission was recently rebuilt and now puts power to the rear tires seamlessly. This SSP is offered with extensive service history, including a copy of the original order slip.
