The BMW R65, introduced in 1978 as a light touring motorcycle placed below the R90, instantly proved the BMW was capable of building bikes that punched above their weight class. Though the 648cc engine made less power than the 898cc unit in the R90, the R65 weighed only 455 pounds with a full tank of gas and had revised frame geometry and a shorter wheelbase allowing for a more agile riding experience. The R65 quickly earned a reputation for being reliable and simple enough for most owners to maintain. Still, BMW took special care in ensuring that anyone would be able to complete at-home maintenance with little more than the supplied tool kit and user manual. Beyond reliability, the R65 earned praise for being a fantastic "all-rounder." With a top speed of 109 miles per hour, excellent fuel economy, long-travel suspension, phenomenal Brembo brakes, and handling that would make owners of larger bikes green with envy, it was difficult not to fall in love with the punchy R65.

This 1986 BMW R65 is an excellent example of an already excellent bike. With only 9,600 miles and one owner from new, it is a real time-capsule to the mid-1980s. The motorcycle wears its original Shwartz paint with red and white pinstriping, both of which are in pristine condition. It is currently fitted with a Corbin Dual Sport Saddle and comes with the original BMW seat, still in fantastic condition. This R65 also comes with brand new, OEM hard-case saddlebags that fit securely on the rear of the bike and two period-correct helmets. Documentation is available from new, making this the perfect small motorcycle for the BMW enthusiast.
