After the release in 1966, desert racer and builder Bill Stroppe quickly became involved with the Ford Bronco. The success of Stroppe Broncos played a significant role in popularizing desert racing and launching the careers of many famous desert racers. In 1971, Stroppe's Broncos secured victories in both the Baja 500 and 1000 races. Capitalizing on this success, Ford decided to offer a special version of the Bronco to the public. On January 28, 1971, Ford introduced the Baja Bronco, a limited production model inspired by Stroppe's winning team cars. This unique vehicle not only provided off-road enthusiasts with a capable off-roader, but also served as a tribute to the achievements of the Stroppe team.

From 1971 to 1975, it is estimated that production numbers are in the range of 450, to up to 650; with 450 being based off the records Ford had kept. Of the approximate 450 produced, just 30 were made for this DSO in 1974- with only 14 total examples recorded in the official Baja Bronco Registry for the 1974 model year. Originally sold on March 11th, 1974, by Sunset Ford in Westminster, California, this example was delivered out of the California DSO (860042), and is believed to have remained in California up until it’s purchase by the current owner in 2013. A Marti Report, spare parts, original hardware, and strong service records from the past 10 years are included in the purchase of this turn-key and off-road capable Bronco.
