1971 Morris Mini 1000
The classic BMC Mini was introduced in 1959 under the Morris and Austin names and took the world by storm throughout the following decade. A simple design in an economic package appealed to all walks of British life. The Mini quickly became a pop culture icon in its own right with purchases by film and movie stars, and with appearances in features films including The Italian Job. It was eventually voted the second most influential car of the 20th century, and, over the years, the shape of the BMC Mini became so instantly recognizable that it was registered as a trademark in its own right. To this day, the Mini is a nostalgic icon on British industry and culture with an unmistakable design and extremely fun driving dynamics. But while the design of the BMC Mini brought it into the hearts of people around the word, the Mini was also praised for its excellent handling. Between its good looks, fun dynamics, and small stature, the Mini was the perfect answer to the VW Beetle and, in many ways, dethroned the ultimate peoples’ car.
This Canadian market 1971 Morris Mini 1000 is an excellent example of the Mark III Mini. It underwent a full restoration approximately ten years ago and shows exceptionally inside and out. The car is finished in the original paint color, BMC Bronze Yellow, over black leather interior, and the quality of the restoration is clearly apparent in the paint finish. While mostly stock, minor modifications have been added to honor Paddy Hopkirk’s legendary 1964 Monte Carlo Rally win in Mini Cooper S number 37. These modifications include shift knob, rocker cover, and t bars. The car drives beautifully with quick and responsive steering, a punchy 998cc motor, and an overall factor of fun that cannot be understated.
