1959 Ford Country Squire
The woodie station wagon is an iconic piece of Americana that will forever be engrained in automotive culture. The original woodies used wooden framework to alter an already existing vehicle's body style, similar to the practices employed by coachbuilders. Eventually, this type of construction fell out of favor, but the use of wood or simulated woodgrain remained in style for decades to come. The Country Squire was marketed as Ford's premier station wagon and was easily distinguishable from the rest of their lineup by its prominent use of wood or woodgrain. It remained in production for nearly 50 years, but few generations were as striking as the Country Squires produced between 1957 and 1959. They paired mid-century styling with classic woodie side-paneling for an unforgettable look. The fourth-generation Country Squire went through several design updates, but the most desirable remains the 1959 examples with quad headlights and large, circular tails.
This 1959 Ford Country Squire was Ford's top-of-the-line offering, complete with dealer-installed air conditioning and chromed window trim in place of the standard imitation woodgrain. The car's exterior is finished in its correct shade of Sherwood Green while the spacious, 9-passenger cabin features an uncommon, factory-optioned green vinyl upholstery. The exterior woodgrain and surrounding trim have been recently replaced and remain in perfect condition. The original H-code 352 cubic-inch V8 produces 300 horsepower in factory spec and sends power through a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission. Automotive Restorations, Inc has maintained this car for approximately 20 years and extensive documentation is available. It is in excellent condition and is ready for whatever adventures lay ahead.
